It’s good in Madagascar. Lost somewhere off the coast of Africa, the island attracts tens of thousands of tourists year after year with its hot tropical climate and rich cultural heritage. And four friends also live here – Alex the lion, Gloria the hippopotamus, Mallman the giraffe and Marty the zebra. For the second time, this glorious brethren managed to find themselves some crazy adventures in you-know-what place.
But before we begin the review, just a few words about the events of the previous part: the above-mentioned comrades are bored to hell with their involuntary life in the New York zoo, and they decide to desert. The escape is unsuccessful, and animal rights activists force the zoo to send the animals back to their natural habitat. I mean to Kenya. By an idiotic coincidence, they do not reach their destination, but land on the shores of Madagascar. The urban lifestyle gives way to the struggle for survival in the best traditions of the TV show "The Last Hero". The first "Madagascar" was dedicated to these dramatic events.

The main mode of Story Mode greets the player with a tutorial. Here you will be shown the basics of the platform component, controls and introduced to several options for mini-games. them in Madagascar 2 quite a lot: starting from football and ending with the funny "Dr. Mallman". Each character has unique skills and is clearly tailored to specific tasks. Alex, who is your Prince of Persia, deftly jumps, slides, climbs over ledges and performs other physical movements. Gloria conquers the water element. Marty is used in racing missions, plus he can throw various objects at enemies. Well, Mallman… Mallman is an extremely useful character in everyday life, thanks to sliding along his long neck you can get to the most inaccessible places, in addition, he can spin his body, thereby turning it into a kind of helicopter. The already iconic penguins are not forgotten either. Their task is to find parts of a crashed plane.
Some mini-games (a little more than 10 pieces) can be replayed at any time in a special mode "Arcade Mode". And both alone and together with a friend. Unfortunately, the multiplayer of the PC version is much inferior to its console counterparts. It’s one thing to sit comfortably on a soft sofa with a joystick in your hands, and quite another to crowd around the keyboard, stare at a small monitor, and at the same time try to have fun. A good gamepad can improve the situation. The ideal option here would be the X360 Controller, fortunately Madagascar 2 runs under the Microsoft "Games for Windows" program and fully supports it.
The technical performance in the game is in perfect order. Graphically Madagascar 2 I can’t say it’s amazing, but for a film-licensed project it looks just great. The picture is clear and colorful, and the characters are almost impossible to distinguish from their prototypes on the big screen. Sound design to match. Music? Straight out of the cartoon, damn good. Voice acting is also top notch. Although the game does not feature any of the actors from the film, most of the voice actors managed to imitate their voices extremely believably (the best example being Alex and Marty, who were voiced in the cartoon by Ben Stiller and Chris Rock, respectively). However, some other comrades (to be fair, there are very few of them) sound completely out of place.
Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa is an excellent example of how to make games based on a film license. The game, which is not too demanding in terms of gaming experience, will be able to interest all members of your family: from young to old. If you’re looking for a fun way to while away a couple of evenings – Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa will be an ideal option.
